WeTransfer Slow: 5 Methods To Solve

WeTransfer is one of the most used methods to exchange files with friends and colleagues. It may happen, however, that the file upload is particularly slow. If you have landed on this page, it is because, most likely, you are having problems with the speed of your transfers. WeTransfer remains an excellent program. Before replacing it, you might think about switching to the Pro version. Don’t worry, many times it has happened to me too. Read the guide, and you will finally have the answers.

If the focus is not enough and there is a problem with the site, you can use several alternatives that I will list shortly. We can also enter a message for the recipient and receive two notifications via email: when the file is sent and when the end-user downloads the files to his machine. Convenient. If you have never tried WeTransfer before, go to the official WeTransfer website and start sharing your files with friends and colleagues.

Although WeTransfer is a well-written and easy-to-use platform, you may run into common problems. One of the problems most encountered by users is the sudden slowness due to several factors. So let’s see how to understand if the problem is ours or that of the platform and, consequently, adjust ourselves to understand whether to use something else or wait patiently for things to go the right way again.

Connection Problems

It may seem trivial, but in many cases, the fault lies not with the WeTransfer site but with our internet connection. It is not uncommon for our band to be clogged, especially at peak times of the day, for example, in the evening. The speed of an internet connection depends on several factors, so the first thing I recommend you to do is to check the performance of your ADSL connection.

To do this, you must use the online tool available by Ookla. If that’s not enough, you can read my guide on testing the ADSL line at home. In that guide, you will find many valuable tips and, last but not least, the method to open disputes with your internet provider in case of slowness problems. Remember, by law. Your provider must guarantee specific standards in the line activation contract.

Band Saturation

Another aspect that should not be underestimated is the saturation of the band. It is not uncommon that WeTransfer cannot reach optimal speeds due to other operations in progress on our PC that slow down its effective process. Make sure, therefore, that no other download and upload operations are in progress. For example, a file-sharing program like eMule, even running in the background, can saturate the bandwidth, slowing you down considerably.

Application or operating system updates, and downloading files from the internet, can damage your performance by affecting the speed of WeTransfer. Close everything and wait for WeTransfer to finish uploading. Only then can you start the background operations again. On Windows, it is elementary to check the active tasks. You must access the task manager menu with the essential sequence ALT + DEL + CTRL.

Using The LAN Cable

Wi-Fi can be one of the causes of WeTransfer’s slowness. Often, the signal is dispersed before reaching your PC, which does nothing but slow down the upload speed and exponentially increase the time needed to finish the upload on WeTransfer. If this happens, connect your pc directly to the modem via a LAN cable. With this procedure, you will notice a significant performance improvement, and the connection will be more stable.

Conflicts With Antivirus

Another possible cause, as suggested by the official WeTransfer guide itself, of the slowness of the site is represented by a potential conflict with antivirus, firewall, or anti-malware programs installed on your PC. Of course, you could solve it by completely uninstalling your PC’s security programs. This, however, is not a wise choice and exposes your machine to severe risks. That’s why I advise you to disable them temporarily. If nothing else, you can understand if the problem is related to this or not. Another possible alternative is to create exceptions.

Many programs allow you to create an exception or a specific program not to be blocked. You could temporarily add your browser so that WeTransfer can work in peace. If, on the other hand, you are connected to a company network, there may be limits imposed by the system administrator. In this case, I suggest you have a chat with the network administrator, who will surely be able to give you some more clarification.

Alternatives To WeTransfer

If you’ve tried all possible solutions without getting the desired results, then WeTransfer is probably to blame. The platform may have server problems, or many users are using the service simultaneously. In this case, you have two alternatives: the first is to wait patiently and try again later, and the second is to find a valid option for WeTransfer. Fortunately, there are several ways to transfer large files.

For example, if you have a host available, you could upload the files to your web space and then give the direct link to the person you want to share the files with. Another method is to use Google Drive, the Google service that allows you to share different data types. You could use Dropbox, another helpful tool with a desktop application, or the Skype messaging program.

Conclusions

The methods to transfer a large file, as you can see, are many. If the file does not exceed 25 megs in size, you may even think about using email. Finally, some emails provide dedicated services, such as Libero’s JumboMail. You can still try to transfer through other similar products or using Google Drive if you have Gmail available. If you know other methods to overcome WeTransfer’s slowness, feel free to write to me, and I will be happy to edit this article.
