On test comfortable Bluetooth earphones, with long autonomy and convincing performances, which can be purchased for 99 euros. The ears (1) are the first product of Nothing, a company created by Carl Pei, founder of OnePlus. The company is headquartered in London and brings together several famous investors, such as iPod inventor Tony Fadell, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, and YouTuber Casey Neistat.

The ear (1) has been noticed in recent months thanks to a careful launch campaign, with the first specimen sold at auction for 1,029 dollars. Headphones were developed by Teenage Engineering, a Swedish company famous above all for its synthesizers. So let’s analyze all the characteristics of Nothing ear (1).

Nothing Ear (1): Design And Technical Features

The ears (1) stand out from all the competition thanks to the original design of earphones and case, with the excellent build quality. These headphones have really compact shapes. First, have semi-transparent parts that let you see the internal components. Then we find exquisite, elegant, modern lines with black and white elements. Headphones that wink even to audio enthusiasts. The ears (1) do not show, in fact, the classic L / R (Left and Right) identification present on all headphones, but only the white and red colors used on the RCA connectors.

Let’s move on to the technical characteristics starting with the 11.6 mm graphene driver. We also remember the 3 integrated microphones and the side touch surface for managing the music and the noise reduction function that we will analyze later. Also, you can raise and lower the volume with a swipe. Headphones with Bluetooth 5.2 and SBC and AAC codecs; shame about the absence of aptX.  Waterproof earphones, equipped with a position sensor: remove them from the ear to stop playing the music, which will automatically restart as soon as we return to wear the ear (1).

The same refined semi-transparent design can be found in the case equipped with a thumb slot that allows it to be used as a fidget spinner. An issue with a sturdy metal hinge, equipped with Qi wireless technology and USB Type-C port, useful for charging the integrated 570 mAh battery. Also, with just 10 minutes in the case, you get up to 1.2 hours of listening. Finally, remember the button for Bluetooth pairing near the USB port. Let’s not forget the dimensions; the earphones measure 28.9 x 21.5 x 23.5mm, weighing just 4.7g. We continue with the box with dimensions equal to 58.9 x 58.6 x 23.7 mm, weighing 57.4 g. We conclude with the package that includes a small manual in English, a USB cable, and white rubber pads of different sizes.

Nothing ear (1): App And Noise Cancellation

Let’s now analyze the iOS and Android app that accompanies these headphones. Earphones with instant pairing with Google Fast Pair compatible Android devices. Application in English, with accurate graphics, complete and easy to use. Let’s start with the active noise cancellation function on the ears (1), with two levels available: light and maximum.

Then we find the Transparency mode that allows you to perceive the surrounding environment even when we wear headphones; a handy function, for example, when we are on the road. Let’s move on to the built-in equalizer with 4 options: balanced, lower, higher, and voice. Within the application, we also find the ability to customize the touch controls of the headphones. Finally, let’s not forget the function that allows you to quickly find the earphones in case of loss, with the headphones emitting a loud noise.

Nothing Ear (1): User Experience And Price

Nothing provided us with the final version of the ear (1), which allowed us to try out all the model’s features for sale. Let’s start with the performance, which is very good. Robust and detailed audio, crystal clear highs, soft mids, natural voices, and pretty deep bass (can be increased via the app). The favorable judgment is also on the microphones and the environmental noise reduction function.

A similar evaluation of autonomy: about 5 hours with a single charge and up to 34 hours using the case; independence which is reduced to 24 hours with the activation of noise suppression. Excellent ergonomics, the ear (1) are very comfortable headphones, small, light, and wearable without difficulty even for several hours. Stable Bluetooth connection with Android and Apple devices.
