The content reproduced on these displays includes information on routes, departure and arrival times and transfer times, news, and notices to passengers, but also advertisements or news of a local or international nature. Smart mobility includes various modes of transport, such as ride-sharing, car-sharing, public transportation, travel by bicycle or scooter, walking and more. The need for smart mobility has arisen from increasing traffic congestion and related side effects, including pollution, wasted time and inefficiency in travel. With the increasing presence, on our roads, of electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid plugins (PHEV), we can, in effect, speak of electric mobility – better known as e-mobility or mobility – in a world today capable of proposing solutions for transport with zero emissions and increasing autonomy. 

The gradual reduction of vehicles with internal combustion engines favors the expansion of the market for electric vehicles and charging stations for electric cars. The charging stations(EV charging stations) are increasingly widespread in the territory, with public installations provided by energy companies in many streets, car parks, airports, and railway stations. At the same time, installations in private structures are also growing, such as companies, hotels, businesses and homes. 

The times for charging the batteries are variable and depend on the current and voltage values ​​used in the process: it goes from about eight hours of a slow recharge (current of 16 / 32A) up to a few tens of minutes for the ultra-fast recharge (voltage continuous of 200V or 400V). The charging stations are equipped with displays that must meet specific requirements and constraints such as place of installation, size, brightness, weather resistance, durability and safety. Most charging systems are installed outdoors, so the screen needs to be much brighter than those used in indoor applications without affecting energy consumption. High-efficiency LED backlighting systems are typically used to save energy and reduce the heat generated.

Depending on the climatic conditions present in the installation, the external temperature can be very variable, and, in any case, a fair amount of heat is produced during the charging process itself. The display must withstand a wide range of temperatures and offer excellent resistance to bad weather and external agents. Given the high voltages and currents involved, a remarkable degree of electromagnetic compatibility must also be guaranteed to protect against electromagnetic interference generated during charging.

Display Requirements For The Transportation Sector

Digital signage applications for the transport sector require visualization solutions (monitors, displays, panels, light totems and more) with specific technical characteristics, certifications and compliance with applicable standards. Presentations designed for digital signage must meet very stringent requirements, including the ability to operate continuously 24/7, ensuring high levels of reliability and low power consumption.

Another essential feature is the readability of the information, which must be guaranteed in any environmental condition in indoor and outdoor applications. For this purpose, high brightness displays are used (typically between 1000 and 2500 cd / m 2 ), with a wide viewing angle and high contrast. 

To withstand the high temperatures typical of outdoor applications, displays made with Hi-Tni TFT technology are capable of withstanding a range of values ​​from -40 ° C to + 110 ° C and thus avoid the formation of annoying spots. Display manufacturers also guarantee resistance against dust, water and humidity by offering an IP65 degree of protection which in some cases can rise to IP68. Displays used in digital signage applications are often treated with special coatings, such as anti-reflective filters or polarizers, to improve their readability further and increase protection from external agents.
